Possible answers could be: - fear - ignorance - mistrust - prejudice - anger - sense of injustice or unfair treatment of one group over their one - jealousy Now ask the following questions: 1. Does society treat all people in the same way? If not, why not? 2. How does your society view people of different races? f. Mechanism Most racist confrontations can be broken into 3 phases: Tension There is a build-up of tension because of racist attitudes. The tension may be caused by any of the feelings in d. above. Trigger An event causes these tensions to be expressed. Temper People lose their tempers and become angry as a result of the event. g. Resolution Understanding and respect can help avoid racism.
